Jedi
Did you have a New Year's resolution this year? Are you still on track? Do you still remember what they were?
Dr Jason Fox shares the concept "choosing one word" for the year. Its much better than a New Year's resolution for a number of reasons. A year is a long time. By setting out specific goals for the 12 month period is going to make it hard to achieve. By using a theme, you can set new goals every couple of months that allow you to be where you want to be at the end of the year. If you fail one or two, thats fine, because if you stick to your theme, everything else you do is leading you to success.
When I sat down to decide this years goal, I tried to understand the types of things that I wanted to achieve. If I missed some, thats fine, but if I abide to my theme, then I will achieve some of these goals, but also others that I hadn't thought of at the time.
The types of things that i want to achieve are: to have a much clearer direction and end goal, become fitter and healthier, drive better outcomes at work, show greater care and support at home, be more disciplined when I choose what I am doing. The later could be making sure that I play less Candy Crush, but also learning to say no to things that I can do, but don't have to.
I toyed with a few ideas: Triangular - they point to show direction, they are are a strong shape and provide support, they always still to their given task - having 3 sides; or signal - they give directions, the communicate what needs to be done to make sure that people are safe and they show intent (just like the Bat-signal)
However I chose Jedi. What are the traits of a Jedi that I want to live by this year? Can you help me live up to this theme?
